Chicago Account Manager Enjoys New Challenges And Opportunities

Jeff Balasa studied at Regis University in Denver, CO and received his B.S. with a Marketing and Management emphasis.

He had the privilege of working in many different industries, but none spiked his interest as much as the beer industry. Balasa is currently an associate account manager at the Chicago based brand design agency Soulsight. While the company services a wide variety of national and global brands, Balasa's primary focus is supporting the MillerCoors business.

Balasa gives insight into the responsibilities of his current role, what he enjoys most about his job and how his education prepared him for his career moves. He also gives excellent advice to those who are interested in pursing a similar career.

Scope and responsibilities of current role?

"My current role includes leading and supporting major branding and packaging initiatives for brands that currently exist within the MillerCoors portfolio as well as white space innovation. Working closely with internal members of our strategy, design and production teams, I ensure that all aspects of the projects are completed on time, within budget and on strategy."

What is your favorite part of your daily duties?

"Walking in the door everyday poses new challenges and opportunities. One thing is for certain, things move fast and nothing gets boring. Learning new ways to approach different client and business needs as well as collaborating with the unbelievably talented members of Soulsight is most rewarding."

Do you feel your education prepared you for your current role?

"Attending both a Jesuit high school and university prepared me for the position I am in. The heavy emphasis on writing and critical thinking is an asset that will be useful in any business setting. The quality of education that I received set a solid framework, but the most valuable tool is actual experience."

Do you have any advice for people who desire to pursue a similar career?

"For those interested working on developing and fostering brands, be inspired by the things that cause strong emotional reactions within yourself. Also, don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. Some of the best opportunities are the ones you aren't expecting."
