Calm During the Storm

On an off day for the Sox, rain threatening the Cubs, and still days away from Hawks/Sharks, we find ourselves in an odd sports place this afternoon, which is right where this show likes to be.
Lebron-to-the-Bulls caught fire yesterday, but the talk was based on no more fact than ever. The most prized free agent in NBA history had a very bad game, his team lost, and suddenly a false urgency was created to reopen possibilities already long discussed. What's really silly about it is the baseless assumption that a painful early exit from the playoffs would make him more likely to leave Cleveland.
Reports say Doug Collins is miffed that the Bulls are not considering him for their coaching vacancy. Doug must not remember his hiring/un-hiring the last time the job was open, and the strange things said about his close personal relationship to Jerry Reinsdorf making a professional one uncomfortable.
Judging from postgame comments, it seems the Sox clubhouse believed yesterday's game was indeed crucial. That's unfortunate, considering they lost. It's also wrong, since even a victory yesterday would not make them better than the Twins. I'm not sure I'd want a team thinking any one game in mid-May is a must win.
Carlos Zambrano was shaky, allowing two baserunners before giving way to Carlos Marmol and expressing his displeasure when he left the mound. Marmol is going to be an ongoing drama in his own right -- his stuff remains absolutely ungodly, but his control will test nerves.
