Bulls' New D-League Team Name: Windy City Bulls

(CBS) The Bulls' new Development League team that will open play in the 2016-'17 season in Hoffman Estates will be called the Windy City Bulls, the organization announced Wednesday.

That name was chosen over the Great Lakes Bulls and Heartland Bulls. The three finalists came from fan submissions that had to include the word "Bulls." "Windy City Bulls" was then chosen by a group of staffers across multiple departments in the Bulls organization who also took into account the fan voting.

"The Windy City Bulls will build on the great traditions of the Chicago Bulls and bring the enjoyment and love of the game of basketball to fans in the Northwest Suburbs," Bulls president/COO Michael Reinsdorf said in a statement. "Windy City Bulls emerged as a fan favorite during our 'Name the Team' campaign earlier this season, and we thank the thousands of fans who helped us select a name that creates a strong connection to the region, reflects our civic pride and extends the reach of the Bulls brand."

The Windy City Bulls will host 24 home games at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates in 2016-'17.
