Brothers charged in $1M Halloween armored truck robbery
LANSING, Ill. (CBS)-- Two brothers are facing charges in an armored truck robbery that took place on Halloween in south suburban Lansing.
According to the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, Corrie Singleton, 21, and Darrell Singleton, 18, of South Holland, Illinois are charged with robbery, bank larceny by assault, and firearm offenses.
As CBS 2's Marybel Gonzalez reported Tuesday, Corrie Singleton is in custody. Officials said an arrest warrant has been issued for Darrell Singleton.
Here's here what investigators say: The two brothers and a juvenile held up a brink courier at gunpoint, taking more than a million dollars from the ATM and an armored guard.
Police said on October 31, after 10:45 a.m., a Brink's security courier was refilling an ATM, in the 16700 block of Torrence Avenue in Lansing, when robbers with handguns approached.
Police said the offenders stole a gun and bag of money from the courier and cash from the ATM.
Prosecutors released dramatic new images showing two brothers robbing an armored truck courier at gunpoint - all of it captured on camera.
It was a routine stop for a Brinks courier that turned violent. A surveillance photo shows the armored guard with a gun pointed to their head.
As the worker was refilling an ATM, police said 21-year-old Corrie singleton, 18-year-old Darrell singleton and a juvenile jumped out of a car.
One of them, armed, asked the courier to put her hands up. As she did, one of them stole her gun, then took the guard's bag with money that was meant to fill up the ATM.
According to the indictment, they then dragged the courier to the truck and opened it with her key fob and fingerprint, stealing more than $904,000 from the armored truck.
They also got away with more than $121,000 from the ATM.
A car chase with Lansing police following, ending when the getaway car crashed along Interstate 80. Much of the stolen money along with a gun were found inside the car, according to investigators.
The brothers are both facing charges including robbery, bank larceny by assault, and firearm offenses. Lansing police arrested Corrie Singleton and the juvenile during that pursuit. They're still looking for Darrell singleton, who got away.
Corrie Singleton is due back in court next week.
Corrie Singleton and the juvenile offender were arrested and stolen money was recovered from the vehicle.
