Bridge lifts along Chicago River start Saturday, full schedule released
The annual Chicago River bridge lifts start Saturday, April 19, the Chicago Department of Transportation announced Friday.
Each spring, the city raises all 27 bridges along the Chicago River from South Ashland Avenue to DuSable Lake Shore Drive to allow recreational boats to be taken from their storage yards back out to their slips in the marinas along Lake Michigan.
All traffic is temporarily halted while the bridges are raised. Drivers and pedestrians should ay careful attention to posted signs and signals, and to use caution near the lifts. Drivers can use alternate routes or wait until the bridges are lowered to continue on their route.
Bridge lifts typically begin at 8 a.m. on Saturdays and 9 a.m. on Wednesdays, The 2025 schedule is:
