Body Pulled From Lake Near Olive Park Beach

Updated 10/08/11 - 7:37 a.m.

CHICAGO (STMW) -- The body of a River North man was pulled from Lake Michigan Friday afternoon on the Near North Side.

Louis Grant, 52, of 100 E. Huron St., was pulled from Lake Michigan at 1559 N. Lake Shore Drive, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. An autopsy is scheduled for later Saturday.

The police Marine Unit responded after someone saw the body floating near Olive Park Beach, according to a Marine Unit spokesman.

Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin MacGregor said the emergency personnel recovered the body about 4 p.m.

The man went missing in the lake Oct. 1 not far from where the body was recovered.

Police said the man was with family members when he went into the water near Oak Street Beach and was overcome by high waves. Companions tried to rescue him, but could not pull him from the water, police said.

Divers searched the lake Sunday morning, but poor underwater visibility forced them to suspend the work.
