Blackhawks Survive Stars' Rally

By Adam Hoge

Head coach Joel Quenneville wasn't happy.

The Blackhawks nearly blew another lead Wednesday night at the United Center but were able to hang on and beat the Dallas Stars 5-3.

Leading 4-1 late in the second period, the Blackhawks surrendered two goals in just a minute and five seconds, forcing Quenneville to call his timeout and regroup the team.

"He wasn't too happy and we all knew that," forward Bryan Bickell said after the game. "He just gave us a slap in the butt to get us going into the third period and we knew we were going to win that game."

From there the Stars would not score again, but the Blackhawks know they need to stop letting teams back into games.

"It's a trend that we have. It's been going on here for at least a year or two that we get up by three or four and it seems we lose our concentration," Quenneville said.

He added that the momentum changed when his team failed to convert on back-t0-back power plays in the second period.

Burish silenced on the ice

Stars forward Adam Burish was silenced by his former team Wednesday as he only tallied one shot in 14:27 of ice time.

"I know that he probably wasn't at his normal agitating self out there with a lot of friends on the other side," Patrick Sharp said about his former teammate.

Burish admitted it was weird playing against the Blackhawks.

"It was weird, but it was fun to play against those guys," he said. "A couple times they were telling me to shut up."

Burish might have been silenced on the ice, but off the ice is always a different story.

"I had dinner with Kane last night and it looked like he was walking pretty good so I don't know if he pulled the shoot on this one or not," Burish said.

Kane of course is out up to three weeks with an apparently left ankle injury.

Morin's first goal

It took six games, but 19-year-old rookie Jeremy Morin finally tallied his first NHL goal Wednesday night to put the Blackhawks up 3-0.

"It's something I will never get to experience again so I'll enjoy it a  little bit and definitely enjoy a little more with a win," he said.
