Chicago's weather can be fickle, with the temperature changing seemingly at the drop of a hat. If you want to swim a few laps or play with the kids in a water park, then turn your attention to indoor swimming pools in the city and suburbs. By heading indoors, you can maintain your fitness routine or shake up your weekend plans with some fun in the pool. Take a look at these independent indoor swimming pools in the Chicago area the next time you want to make a splash.
Chicago Park District

Residents of Chicago don't need to look too far to find an indoor swimming pool. Chicago Park District operates a number of indoor swimming pools, with locations all over the city. There's the pool at Austin Town Hall Park, equipped with four swimming lanes, making it easy for you to get some laps in after work. The park district also has the pool at Carver Park, that has six lanes and a wheelchair lift, as well as the Don Nash Community Center, that has four lanes, a wheelchair lift and ADA stairs. Combine fitness with fun when you visit Kroc Center Chicago. Located in Chicago's West Pullman neighborhood, the center boasts a lap pool, so you can get in shape or practice for an upcoming race. There's also a water playground if you want to have some fun with your family. Ignore the unpredictable weather outside and go for a swim inside the YMCA of Metro Chicago. Maybe you'd like to take swim classes at High Ridge YMCA and Irving Park YMCA in the city, or go for a dip in the suburbs at facilities like the Leaning Tower YMCA in Niles. Swim classes are also offered, and the pool schedules are available via the YMCA of Metro Chicago's website. In addition, many locations offer pool rentals for parties and events.

Step inside Pelican Harbor Aquatic Park, and you can race down water slides or swim a few laps in the lap pool. The park, which is part of the Bolingbrook Park District, also has a zero-depth entry pool so you can ease into the water and get acclimated. Admission rates and park hours are available on the park district's website, and there are special rates for parent and tot swim. The park also has an outdoor section that is open in warmer months, complete with a lazy river and water slides.

Make a splash with your family at The Water Works, an indoor water park inside the Community Recreation Center of the Schaumburg Park District. Located just south of Golf Road in the northwest suburb of Schaumburg, the water park boasts water slides, a lap pool and a diving pool, so you can have fun and squeeze in some serious swim time. Here's something that will likely be music to parents' ears: The Water Works has a family changing room. The admission cost for residents and non-residents is posted on the Schaumburg Park District's website and pool passes are also available for purchase.
