Bears' John Fox: We're Making Progress, Even If It's Hard For Outsiders To See
(CBS) One of Bears coach John Fox's mantras is "underpromise and overdeliver," a nod to proving yourself with your actions and not your words.
So it comes as no surprise that Fox won't delve deep into expectations for Chicago this season. And it's also with that in mind that there can be some ambiguity in measuring success for the Bears in Year 2 of the Ryan Pace-Fox era.
Even Fox acknowledges that much.
"We're making progress," Fox said in an interview on the Boers and Bernstein Show on Monday. "I can't tell you how that's going to measure. You look at last season, we were 6-10. That's last place. That's not acceptable, not good enough. But we were very competitive. If you look in our division, we played the hardest schedule in football last year when you look at (games played against playoff teams). I think we're making progress. What that means, I think I get it. I don't know if everybody out there gets it. But you kind of got to wait and see."
So are the main points that Fox really wants the fans to understand?
"I can honestly predict that we'll be better on defense than we were a year ago," Fox replied. "I honestly think we'll be better on offense. Now, we have to stay healthy. We don't have a great amount of depth. You don't get there that fast in this league. So with some good fortune as far as injuries, I think you'll see improvement."
