Angry Emanuel Rips 'Gang-Bangers' For Shooting Children
CHICAGO (CBS) -- After three recent shootings that injured young children, Mayor Emanuel unloaded today on gang members.
Emanuel was marking the end of the One Summer Chicago Program that put 30,000 young people to work, and after the ceremony his anger and frustration was palpable.
"I will guarantee you whatever gang-banger that pulled that trigger, he hasn't visited one of those children in the hospital," said Emanuel, his voice rising. "Have they called the mother? Have they called the grandmother. Have they checked on the health of these young kids?"
"They have, not once, shown remorse, accountability, said they were sorry. What shoulder have they provided that mother? What comfort?"
He also questioned how gang-bangers with long criminal records are back on the street.
The mayor said he was then off to visit the family of 6-year-old Zariah Muhammad, who underwent surgery on Friday after she was shot in the head on Thursday.
