CHICAGO (CBS) — Police late Friday were investigating 10 burglaries at restaurants and stores across the city.

The burglaries all happened between midnight and 5 a.m. Friday. In each case, an unknown number of suspects broke through a front or side glass window.

The burglaries started on the Southwest Side, and worked their way south and west, then back north over the course of the early-morning hours.

At 12:11 a.m. in the 7800 block of South Western Avenue in Ashburn, a burglary alarm went off at a restaurant. The glass door was smashed, and the register was taken.

A business in the 3300 block of West 79th Street, also in Ashburn, was targeted at 12:43 a.m.

Officers then responded to a burglar alarm at a restaurant in the 4100 block South Ashland Avenue in Back of the Yards around 1:43 a.m. They found the front glass door damaged and money taken from the register. 

Minutes later, a restaurant and a café in the 2600 block of South Halsted Street in Bridgeport were hit – at 1:43 a.m. and 1:46 a.m. Money was also taken from the register at both locations.

The burglars then worked their way north. Other businesses at the following locations were also targeted:

  • 2000 block of North Damen Avenue, Bucktown, 2:45 a.m.
  • 1400 block of West Winnemac Avenue, Uptown, 2:50 a.m.
  • 1700 block of West Wilson Avenue, Ravenswood, 3:06 a.m. In this incident at a restaurant, the glass side window was damaged, and the register was tampered with.
  • 4500 block of North Ravenswood Avenue, Ravenswood, 1 a.m. to 4 a.m.
  • 4300 block of North Lincoln Avenue, 4:30 a.m.

Police believe all the burglaries are connected.

No arrests had been made late Friday.
