Downers Grove police said six people are in custody after a woman was robbed by a group of armed men Tuesday night.

Police said they were called just after 8:30 p.m. by a woman who said four Hispanic men approached her car while she was inside at the intersection of Prairie and Forest avenues and began yelling at her. She was able to drive away and called police.

Minutes later, Downers Grove police got a 911 call to report an armed robbery about a block away on Forest Avenue. The victim told police three Hispanic men approached her who demanded money and tried to grab her purse off her shoulder.

The victim told police one of the men then lifted up his shirt and showed her a "multi-colored handgun" in his waistband, at which time the victim gave the men cash from her wallet and they fled southbound on Forest Avenue. The woman was not hurt, police said.

When police stopped a car with six men inside in the 3200-block of Highland Avenue and searched the vehicle, they found a backpack with a sweatshirt that matched the description of the man with the handgun the second victim had given police. Police said they also found a "multi-colored handgun" in the car's center console.

All six men were taken into custody and an investigation is ongoing, Downers Grove police said. No charges have yet been filed.
