Man killed in mass shooting that left 6 others hurt, CTA bus crash in Humboldt Park identified
One person was killed and six others were injured during a mass shooting in Humboldt Park Sunday afternoon.
The shooting happened around 12:17 p.m. in the 700 block of North Christiana Avenue, just south of Chicago Avenue
CPD says six people were standing outside near an alley when two unknown vehicles approached. Multiple armed suspects got out and fired shots at the victims.
A woman was inside her car when she was hit by the gunfire and crashed into a Chicago Transit Authority bus, police say.
A 14-year-old boy was shot in the thighs and taken to Stroger Hospital of Cook County in good condition.
An 18 -year-old man was hit in the shoulder and self-transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
A 21-year-old man was hit in the leg and was taken to Stroger in good condition.
A 24-year-old man was shot in the leg and stomach and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
A 26-year-old man was hit in the foot and self-transported to Stroger in good condition.
A 30-year-old woman was hit in the hip and was taken to Mt. Sinai in good condition.
An 18-year-old man, identified by medical examiners as Michael Howard, was shot multiple times in the body and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Two CTA buses were seen behind police tape on Homan Avenue one block over. The bus driver was transported to a local hospital for observation.
The crime scene extended across Chicago Avenue up Christiana to a second taped off crime scene. Police said on dispatch radio that two people were found shot in the parking lot of the Salvation Army Freedom Center.
CBS News Chicago talked to one man who returned to the scene several hours later. He did not want to be on camera, but he told police he dropped two phones as he ran from the gunfire.
The man said an officer told him those phones had been collected as evidence, picked up at the scene with dozens of evidence markers.
Harrison Area detectives are investigating.
