2nd Man Found Guilty In Bartlett Attorney's 2009 Murder

WHEATON, Ill. (STMW) -- A second man was found guilty Friday of the 2009 murder of an 82-year-old attorney and gun collector who was smothered to death in his northwest suburban home.

Terry Bratcher, 45, of West Chicago, was found guilty of first-degree murder for the death of Carl Kuhn, according to a release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's office. A six-person jury deliberated for about two hours before returning the verdict.

Bratcher had been a client of Kuhn, who was an avid gun collector, the release said. Bratcher and his accomplice, Keith Allen, hatched a plan to rob Kuhn on Aug. 21, 2009.

Once inside Kuhn's Bartlett home, Bratcher called for an armed and disguised Allen to join him, then forced Kuhn to an upstairs bedroom, where they made him to drink iced tea laced with dishwashing soap, the release said.

They then covered Kuhn's head with a jacket and a pair of men's underwear and smothered him to death by forcing his head into a pillow on a bed, according to the release.

Allen, of Chicago, was sentenced to 46 years in prison in April, the release said.

Bratcher -- who was also found guilty of home invasion and armed robbery -- faces up to life in prison when he is sentenced on Oct. 18.
