3 firefighters, 1 resident injured after battling building fire in West Town
Four people, including three firefighters, were taken to the hospital following an apartment fire in West Town on Monday night.
The fire broke out at the two-and-a-half-story apartment building in the 800 block of North May Street around 8:30 p.m. Flames were seen coming from outside the home, prompting a large response from fire crews in cold and difficult conditions.
Fire officials reported a flashover on the second floor. A mayday call was issued for a firefighter unaccounted for.
The Chicago Fire Department said three firefighters were taken to local hospitals. Their conditions are unknown at this time.
Police said a male resident was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a head injury. He was listed in good condition.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
