Guide To Men's Manicures Around Chicago

By Samantha McCarthy

So, I know what you're thinking. Absolutely not, no way am I going to get a manicure. That's for girls. Listen up guys; I'm not talking pretty pink nail polish, just cleaning them up (a little clipping here, a little filing there). Trust me, it will score you points with the ladies. Women notice EVERYTHING, and nothing matters more than personal hygiene and body maintenance. No woman wants your grubby, jagged-edged nails holding her hand. Plus, it shows you're put together and take care of yourself.

OPTION #1: Leave it to the professionals

Spa Nordstrom

The Shops at North Bridge
520 N. Michigan Ave
Chicago, IL 60611
(312) 379-4300
Hours: Open 7 days a week
Spa Nordstrom

One of my favorite places to go for a manicure is Spa Nordstrom.  The atmosphere is totally relaxing and the polish never seems to chip. Lucky for you, they also specialize in taking care of your man hands with their Sport Manicure, $45. It's basically the same as a women's manicure, sans polish, with cutting, trimming, buffing, filing and a massage.  While you're there, check out other Men's Therapy Services like the Fitness facial, Roman Emperor Bath and Spa Monsieur.

With six locations around the city, one is bound to be convenient to you. This hip, guy-focused salon has a package called "The Relaxed," $20, which includes a paraffin hand wax and massage treatment that will leave your hands feeling softer than a baby's. You'll also receive a scalp massage, hot towel and facial toner, and complimentary beverage.

Spare 30 minutes of your day and get the works at Spa Space.  Their Man Hands Manicure will soften your skin with a peppermint clay mask, treat your cuticles and create a clean, natural shape for your nails.  The best part is, it's only $25.

Expect nothing less than royal treatment at Truefitt & Hill, the oldest barbershop in the world. They still serve British royalty like H.R.H Prince Philip and the Duke of Edinburgh, so you know their services are top-notch. Try their Manicure $30 with a Hand & Forearm Massage $35.

OPTION #2:

For a less expensive option, you can do it yourself.  Head to your local Walgreen's or CVS and put together your own manicure set: nail clippers, emery board, cuticle cutters and hand lotion.  You can get it all for about $10 with a Walgreens Nail Clipper $0.69, Studio 35 Emery Board $0.99, Revlon Cuticle Trimmer $4.49 and Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair Hand Cream $5.49.  And don't worry, the hand cream doesn't smell girlie.
