Panels of outside vaccine advisers to the CDC and FDA both voted unanimously this week to back the shots from Moderna as well as Pfizer and BioNTech.
"We have been trending in the right direction of late with lower case rates and very few hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19, so we're happy to see this," Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Allison Arwady said.
The FDA's panel of vaccine advisers voted unanimously that the benefits of Pfizer's and Moderna's shots outweigh the risks in young children.
Fauci, who is 81, is fully vaccinated and has been boosted twice, according to the National Institutes of Health.
As of Monday, the city has now identified seven confirmed cases of monkeypox this year, and the city is working with the Illinois Department of Public Health and other local public health agencies to identify other potential cases.
The second probable case of the virus in Illinois was a close contact of the first case.
