Demonstrators across Florida protested after the controversial "Don't Say Gay" bill passed in the Senate. The bill would restrict teachers and school districts from discussing gender identity and topics surrounding sexuality in the classroom from kindergarten through third grade. Manuel Bojorquez reports.
The legislation goes into effect immediately.
The ruling comes in response to a lawsuit filed against Governor Greg Abbott over an order he enacted that treats gender-transitioning procedures as child abuse.
The suit argues Abbott's order violates the constitutional rights of transgender children and their families.
Florida's legislature is moving forward with a bill that would prohibit teachers and others from addressing LGBTQ issues in the classroom. The so-called "Don't Say Gay" bill is one of many similar measures in multiple states across the country. Manuel Bojorquez reports.
The bill would prohibit schools from discussing sexual orientation or gender identity with students in kindergarten through third grade, and limit discussions in higher grades.
Licensed professionals will be required to report instances of kids undergoing gender-transitioning procedures.
Russia "won't allow us to exist peacefully and to fight for our rights as we are able to do that in Ukraine right now," an 18-year-old law student said.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said he doesn't support "injecting these concepts about choosing your gender" at schools.
