Shaving Like A Man

BOSTON (CBS) - I came to use my honey's shaving cream, shaving brush and razor in a moment of desperation (Or so I've told him. But in truth, sooner or later I "borrow" all of his things—especially his very cool collection of socks—that's another story).

One summer we were due to leave for the Berkshires on a particularly muggy day in July. Since I was running late and didn't have time to finish the grooming routine of shaving and plucking, I decided then and there, I would purposefully forget my shaving and plucking paraphernalia this one time.

Honey tends to shave less regularly when on vacation, but since it was a Thursday morning and we were planning to drive back to the city verrry early on Monday to report to work, I knew that I could count on using his goods.

On my lazy mornings when I'm not in a hurry to get out of the house quickly, I sit on the edge of the tub to chat with him while he shaves. I suppose using his shaving materials brought me back to those lazy mornings. In retrospect, it's not surprising the process of wetting the shaving brush, rubbing it lazily in a tub of shaving cream, and watching the shaving cream turn to tiny bubbles fascinated and relaxed me.

Perhaps it was the smell of maca root found in his shaving cream that put me at ease, or maybe it had to do with fond memories of watching him shave. Either way, I loved my new discovery. That day in July, after receiving his permission (of course), when I finished my new shaving routine, my legs felt unbelievably smooth and more importantly, moisturized.

For the rest of the day, I would find myself touching my legs while thinking, "Wow, have they EVER been so soft?"

Since that summer, I have been shaving like man, I do not miss pressing on the nozzle of a shaving cream can. Rather, now (after having purchased my own brush and razor—I still use honey's shaving cream), shaving seems like such a treat. I no longer think, "Darn, I have to shave again." Now, I enjoy the process and secretly think to myself, "Haha! I'm shaving like a man!"

Using these more expensive products really does pay off, brushes can run you anywhere from $55- $100, razors from $80-$100 and shaving cream is normally around $20. A little pricier, yes, but clearly worth it in the end. Here are some places in Boston to purchase all of your shaving needs.
