Play Ball This Week

2016 Red Sox Forecast HomeIt's finally here! The Home Opener at Fenway Park is considered the first day of spring in the Boston area by many folks but it's not always springlike on that day or any other day in April. We know the month can contain fickle weather of extremes but I think you will be satisfied with today's conditions. While a brief shower cannot be completely ruled out, the afternoon should be dry with a clouded sky which may occasionally brighten to allow some filtered sunshine. The wind will be a factor blowing out of the south-southwest at 15-35 mph. Maybe we'll see a couple of long balls! The temperature will rise into the upper 50s which is close to 4 or 5 degrees above the average for April 11.2016 RPM Timeline Temps Local

Wet weather will definitely cross the area tomorrow morning into the afternoon but it appears it will be long gone by first pitch at 7:10 pm. It will be mild from the get-go with lower to middle 50s for the morning commute with a rise to the upper 50s by noon. With the cold frontal passage, the gusty southwesterly wind will shift to west-northwest and decrease to 10-15 mph and temperatures will fall to the upper 40s by game time. GO SOX!

2015 Rain Forecast Numbers

Rainfall of a half-inch or so is expected except lower totals over southeastern MA/Cape Cod. High pressure will be building closer to the region to provide sunshine followed by some high clouds on Wednesday. There will be a northeasterly breeze checking high temperatures around 45 at the coast while 56 degrees is more likely farther inland. It will be chilly with light wind and temperatures in the lower 40s at Fenway Park Wednesday evening as the Red Sox complete the 3-game series with the Orioles.

With a potential weather block evolution late this week, a developing storm could be captured and forced to back in closer to New England. Consequently, the risk of cold rain and a gusty northeasterly wind ramps up on Friday. Residual mist and showers may still occur on Saturday. Thus, the Friday evening game vs. the Blue Jays may be in jeopardy of being rained out. It is too early to be confident of that right now.

If all goes well, however, the next impulse approaching from central Canada could indeed become the kicker that unravels this block and pushes it southeastward and out to sea. So while it is too premature to be certain, the possibility exists of a window of nice weather next Sunday and on Marathon Monday before a string of showers arrives from the northwest. Temperatures could max out closer to 70 well inland with 48-54 closer to the coast both of the days. That is the long shot special right at this time and that would be so much nicer for the runners and spectators than last year's Boston Marathon which turned out cold and rainy.
