BOSTON - Heavy rain and gusty wind will continue across Massachusetts for the commute Monday morning, but the good news is it will not last all day.

A widespread 2-to-3 inches of rain is expected by the time it's all over.

This will lead to localized flooding and ponding on roads all morning.  There is a flood watch is in effect for most of Massachusetts until Monday evening.

There may be also be some minor coastal flooding and beach erosion along south facing beaches during the high tide cycle Monday morning.

In addition to the heavy rain, there will also be strong, gusty southerly winds. The strongest gusts will occur along the South Coast, Cape, and Islands. We expect peak winds in those locations to be around 60 miles per hour.

Elsewhere, gusts could reach near 50 mph across the rest of southeast Massachusetts and up the coast through the North Shore. Inland, gusts should top out between 30-to-40 mph.

Be prepared for scattered wind damage and isolated power outages, primarily in the areas with winds over 50 mph.

We are expecting to dry out late Monday morning into the early afternoon. The sun will eventually appear and we will stay dry over the next few days.
