Digital Equipment Co-Founder Leaves Behind Legacy

BOSTON (CBS) - The man who was one of the leaders of the Massachusetts Miracle has died at the age of 84.

The co-founder of Digital Equipment of Maynard, Ken Olsen, launched DEC in an old mill with $70,000. It grew to an international computer company worth $14 billion that at one time was second only to IBM.

Olsen once said he wanted to change an industry that thought your average computer should be taller than a man! The company achieved 30-percent annual growth for three decades straight.

WBZ's Anthony Silva spoke with Peter Koch of Stratham, New Hampshire, who worked at DEC for 25 years and once oversaw manufacturing in Maynard, Massachusetts.
