Edwards released a statement Thursday finally admitting to fathering Frances Quinn Hunter during his second White House bid in 2007. The admission comes ahead of the Feb. 2 release of a book by former Edwards aide Andrew Young that is expected to describe how Edwards worked to hide his paternity with Young's help.
Young says that shortly before the 2008 presidential primaries began, Edwards asked him to claim he fathered Frances Quinn Hunter. You'll be "taken care of for life," Edwards allegedly told him.
When that didn't work, Young alleges that Edwards asked him to fake a DNA test that would prove Edwards wasn't the father.
Young also writes that Edwards was not completely sure the baby was his and he asked Young to steal one of the child's dirty diapers so they could secretly conduct a DNA test on its poop.
Now that's dirty politics.
