Day 81: Obama Sees Progress On Economy

(AP)
On his eighty-first day in office, President Obama expressed optimism that the economy is beginning to rebound. Following a meeting with his economic team, the president said people are "starting to see is glimmers of hope across the economy." But he cautioned that the economy was still under "severe stress" and that more job losses could lie ahead.

The president had no other public events today.

In other, somewhat less pressing news, the first family still hasn't selected a presidential puppy, and Mr. Obama remained mum this morning on when it would be coming to the White House. Responding to the umpteenth question about the new dog, he took a moment to tease the press, saying that the dog's arrival date remains "top secret."

Should the Obamas wish to disappoint Sasha and Malia, along with much of the rest of the country, comedian Mo Rocca suggested on today's Washington Unplugged that they opt instead for a vicuña, an Andean relative of the llama.
