WEATHER BLOG: Summer Sunday
The main feature on today's weather map, as far as we are concerned, is an area of high pressure located just off the East Coast. This area of high pressure will not be going much of anywhere over the next several days. The clockwise circulation around it will result in flow of increasingly warm and humid air from the south across our area. So while we recently had a spell of comfortable temperatures and low humidity, that is pretty much a thing of the past. Going forward, the air will tend to get warmer and more humid each day. We are watching a very weak area of low pressure centered over the NC and VA boarder will bring showers and thunderstorms up into our region from the south especially this afternoon. The best chance of seeing a brief period of rain from this low will be west of I-95 corridor in Maryland and Virginia, but showers and thunderstorms will form throughout the day across Philadelphia, southern New Jersey and points south.
There could be a relative dry area across the Lower Susquehanna. Monday will bring a somewhat higher chance for a shower or thunderstorm as a weak short wave moves across the region. It will bring slight height falls as the air continues to get warmer and more moist. This should give rise to an increase in shower and thunderstorm activity, though I think they will still be scattered.
