WEATHER BLOG: Heat Wave Ending

The main news story for the upcoming week will feature the end of the stifling hot spell that has gripped the region the last 10 days. Although Sunday will still be quite hot (with highs in the mid and upper 90s), conditions will cool off into the 80s for max temps for much of this upcoming week!

The large ridge of high pressure responsible for the Eastern heat will shift to the interior west over the next few days sending the extreme heat to the western U.S. and allowing cooler weather to filter into the east as the jet stream dips southward from Canada over the East. At show time (early Sunday morning) scattered showers/some thunderstorms associated with a cold front were near I-80 in Pa. These showers should not impact the region, staying well to the north of the city. Otherwise, Sunday will feature partly sunny skies and a continuance of the high heat and humidity.

T-storms will pop-up Sunday afternoon as daytime heating destabilizes the sultry air mass. Some of the storms will be severe, with high wind gusts considered to be the primary threat (winds could locally exceed 65 mph in the strongest of storms), though hail may also pose a threat. Storms will linger into the evening, but diminish after midnight.
