WEATHER BLOG: Damp & Chilly

A wave of low pressure will move northeastward along the East Coast Sunday, bringing with it an abundance of clouds and periods of rainfall. The rainfall will not be overly heavy, but a tenth to a quarter-inch or so seems reasonable for many areas. The clouds and precipitation will keep high temperatures in the 50s, well below average for the date. The rain will come to an end late Sunday afternoon with some clearing late.

The upcoming work week should start off on a decent note with a mix of sunshine and high clouds to go along with comfortable temperatures. That could change on Tuesday, however, as high pressure noses southward along the coast and a wave of low pressure develops just offshore. The resulting easterly flow will bring more low clouds into the picture and perhaps a few showers. There remains some uncertainty as to the depth of the moisture profile, but with the easterly flow at the surface with positive vorticity advection aloft we may need to introduce some precipitation in later forecasts.

Wednesday is a transition day of sorts as the coastal disturbance pulls away and a shortwave trough arrives… so it may be the sort of day that starts cloudy and ends cloudy with breaks of sun in between. Additionally, a stray shower cannot be ruled out late in the day, but we'll preserve continuity and keep the forecast dry for now. Regardless, the week will end with temperatures falling below normal as the trough clears and a cold front blasts southward, allowing a much cooler air mass to invade the region.
