WEATHER BLOG: Beautiful Mother's Day

The first full week of May has surely been a bummer for anyone hoping for sun and summer-like temperatures. Baltimore has seen measurable rain every day this month (11 straight days dating back to the end of April) with temperatures averaging nearly 4 degrees Fahrenheit below normal. There will be some hope for those wanting sun and warmer temperatures but only on Mother's Day. Believe it or not, the sun will be out for much of the day today, perfect timing for all the mother's in the area! Gusty west winds will also help rise temperatures into the lower 70s. Starting Sunday night through early this week, a boundary is expected to stall right across the region and will keep much of the region stuck in the cloud cover once again.

There should be enough moisture for showers to break out in spots on Monday and Tuesday. It will not be an all day washout, which is good news given that much of the region has received between 2 and 3 inches of rain so far this month.

A high pressure system should suppress these clouds farther south on Wednesday bringing back the chance for some sun. This should also keep any chance for a shower to the south and west of the viewing area. The high will determine how much sun is out. We currently project highs will rebound back into the lower 70s.

By Thursday, the high will begin to weaken and allow a storm to spread across the region. There should be enough sun to warm us into the lower 70s before showers and thunderstorms arrive, mainly later in the day and at night. Rain will continue on Friday and perhaps Friday night.
