Urbana Beats Wise, 6-0
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Senior quarterback Michael Spahr threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Jude Merkel early in the third quarter for the game's only score as Urbana of Frederick County completed a dominant season by beating Wise of Prince George's County, 6-0.
The victory came in the Maryland 4A high school football championship game on Friday night at M&T Bank Stadium.
Urbana, which finished 13-0, never trailed in a game all season and shut out nine opponents as it won the school's fifth state title. The Hawks' first-string defense allowed just two touchdowns all season.
Wise finished 12-2, losing in the state final for the second consecutive season.
Urbana managed just one first down and 35 yards of total offense in the first half. But the Hawks took the second-half kickoff and drove 78 yards.
