The Norris & Davis Show Best Of - Week Of October 24th
This week's edition of the Norris & Davis Show best of features an interview with Pat Kennedy on the scandal going on with Louisville basketball and Head Coach Rick Pitino, and Baltimore resident and former NBA great Muggsy Bogues on making a difference in his hometown community.
PAT KENNEDY
Pat joined Ed and Steve to talk about the current scandal at Louisville, involving parties with strippers and underage consumption of alcohol on campus for basketball players and basketball recruits.
When asked if the scandal was plausible Pat said "yes, it's a well known fact that when youngsters come on recruiting trips to universities they are taken to parties." Pat also mentioned that this is probably just the beginning and that there are problems with these trips that are probably much more serious.
Ed asked Pat what he meant by more serious problems and Pat said "a lot of times you an follow the cash, like Shapiro in Miami being on the sidelines and hanging out with the coaches." Pat went on to say "he either got that money from either someone in the coaching staff or someone in the community who was familiar with that kind of money."
MUGGSY BOGUES
Muggsy joined Ed and Steve to discuss his work with the NBA and Junior NBA as well as news and notes around the NBA and College basketball landscapes.
Ed asked Muggsy about his thoughts on the Maryland Terps men's basketball team heading into this season. Muggsy has been happy to see his hometown team enjoy early success in the Big Ten saying, "I'm a little biased because I'm a wake Forest graduate, but they have represented the ACC really well since moving to the Big Ten. I'm always pleased about my hometown team doing well."
steve asked Muggsy whether he is surprised that more short basketball players haven't followed in his footsteps and made it to the NBA. Muggsy acknowledged that he is surprised and even pointed out another Baltimore City high school star Aquille Carr whom he had hoped would follow in his steps, "I'm surprised because its all about the way you play the game. A great example is Aquille Carr. I was really high on him. He had the ability and talent, but when I got a chance to watch and he didn't play the game the way he should have. You have to play the game much bigger than you are."
Muggsy went on to discuss who he thinks is the better player, Michael Jordan or Lebron James, the great Dunbar basketball teams that he played for, and the state of the game of basketball today compared to when he played.
