Spokesman: D.C. Transit System In Good Shape

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Public transit in the District of Columbia and its surrounding suburbs is running as scheduled and without delays despite the impending arrival of Hurricane Irene.

Metro Transit spokesman Dan Stessel says Saturday night that the system is "in good shape" with no reported delays or bus detours.

Metro officials had previously said they didn't expect any interruptions in service unless weather conditions proved worse than expected.

The hurricane is currently moving up the Eastern Seaboard.
