Sister-In-Law Sentenced To Life For Role In 2010 Towson Gas Station Murder
TOWSON, Md. (WJZ)—She provided the gun in a twisted murder-for-hire plot that led to her brother-in-law's death. Now Susan Datta has learned her fate.
Datta was sentenced Monday to life imprisonment for her role in William "Ray" Porter's death at the Towson Hess gas station he owned on March 1, 2010.
Porter was killed by Walter Bishop in a contract murder arranged by Karla Porter, Ray Porter's wife and Datta's sister.
Datta was found guilty on Nov. 9, 2010 for providing the handgun that was used in the murder. And on Monday, she was sentenced to life for first-degree murder, a concurrent sentence of life for conspiracy to commit murder and five years without parole for use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence.
Last November, the triggerman was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences plus 20 years.
Three other suspects are also being tried in this case: Matthew Brown is scheduled for sentencing on June 29, 2012. Calvin Mowers is scheduled for sentencing on July 6, 2012. And the victim's wife, Karla Porter, is scheduled for trial in Carroll County Circuit Court on March 28, 2013.
