Road Closures Expected For Baltimore Shamrock 5K, St. Patrick's Day Parade

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The city's Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of a number of road closures Sunday due to the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Shamrock 5K.

The parade will begin at 2 p.m. at the intersection of Charles and Centre Street, however road closures can be expected ahead of time. The parade route will proceed south along Charles Street, then east on Pratt Street to Market Place. The parade will last about three hours.

Participants will begin to gather at 11 a.m. at the Washington Monument.

Also prior to the parade, the Shamrock 5K will be held at the intersection of Charles and Mulberry Streets beginning at 1:15 p.m.

That race will proceed south on Charles Street, east on Conway Street, south on Light Street and east on Key Highway. Then runners will turn around at Jackson Street and proceed west on Key Highway, north on Light Street and then east on Pratt Street. The race will end at Pratt Street and Market Place.

Throughout the race, a designated travel lane will be highlighted for participants along the course route. In addition, Key Highway will be closed to through traffic at Lawrence Street for the duration of the 5K Run (access for local traffic will be maintained).

The following streets will be closed during the parade:

11:00 a.m. – Market Place from Pratt to Water Streets

11:00 a.m. – Charles Street from Centre Street to Madison Avenue

11:00 a.m. – Mt. Vernon Place from Cathedral to St. Paul Streets

11:00 a.m. – Centre Street from Cathedral to St. Paul Streets

12:00 p.m. – Charles Street from Saratoga to Centre Streets

1:00 p.m. – Charles Street from Conway to W. Franklin Streets

1:45 p.m. – Pratt Street from Howard to President Streets

The following parking restrictions will be in effect along the parade and race routes from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.:

Mt. Vernon Place from Cathedral to St. Paul Streets

Centre Street from Cathedral to St. Paul Streets

Charles Street from Conway to Read Streets

Market Place from Pratt to Water Streets

Pratt Street from Gay to President Streets (north side)

Key Highway from Battery Avenue to Covington Street (south side)

Transportation Enforcement Officers will assist the Baltimore City Police with the movement of traffic in the downtown area. Motorists traveling in this vicinity may experience delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
