Whimpering Puppy Found In Mounds Of Trash
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- They call her "Henrietta". She was discovered by a landlord in a filthy, trash-filled abandoned apartment in Kenilworth Park. He heard a faint whimper, called animal control and underneath piles of debris they found a filthy, emaciated pup, near death. They scooped her up and took her to The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS).
Lizzy Grap with BARCS said Henrietta had a one-out-of-nine body scale. She was severely neglected, abused and 12 pounds.
"No animal should have to suffer the way Henrietta has," Grap said.
Henrietta is only 10 months old. She is so sick, BARCs had to rush her to another clinic that partners with their Franky Fund.
"The Franky Fund is a fund that allows us to say 'Yes' to all the treatable animals that come through our door," Grap said.
Last year BARCS spent a quarter of a million dollars treating 900 animals with extraordinary medical needs. Money that came from the Franky Fund. 100 percent of Franky Fund donations pay for medical treatment to try and save the lives of suffering animals, like Henrietta.
"She's not out of the woods yet. We are hopeful she will make a full recovery," Grap said. "She's still weak but she's wagging her tail when people give her love and that's a good sign."
