Private School Announces Plans To Buy Care Services Facility

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A private school has announced its plans to purchase an assisted living facility and hospice located near its campus in the District of Columbia's northwest area.

On Tuesday, the Washington Home and Community Hospices said it has decided to sell its Upton Street facility to the Sidwell Friends School. The home has been providing residential care services for 127 years.

In a letter to parents, school officials say that purchasing the 5.7 acre property will allow Sidwell to consolidate onto a single campus in the District.

The Sidwell Friends Lower School campus is located in Bethesda, Maryland.

CEO of the Washington Home Tim Cox says because the sale won't close until the end of 2016, there will be time to "develop individual transition plans" for residents and staff.
