Mother Of Man Charged In Crash That Killed Infant Arrested

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A Baltimore man on the run for days will be brought back to the city to face charges in the crash that killed a one-year-old. And now, his mother is also under arrest.

Police say she helped hide her son during a multi-state manhunt.

Rick Ritter with the alleged role she played.

Police believe Roxanne Walston helped her son get to North Carolina. They say she notified him they were coming after him. She's now being charged as well.

Roxanne Walston, 59, is the mother police say helped hide a killer--her own son--after a crash that left a 16-month-old dead.

"There's a mother without a child because of her son's actions. It's sad. It's very sad," said T.J. Smith, Baltimore City Police Department.

Wayne Green, Jr. was wanted in the death of Jeremiah Perry. Green allegedly hit an officer in Baltimore County and led police on a pursuit and crash that killed the child in Baltimore City.

He was hospitalized, but managed to slip out of Shock Trauma just before being charged, sparking a manhunt for the 38-year-old that police say Walston helped carry out.

"She assisted him, that she helped him get away or notified him that we were coming," said Smith.

Green was on the run for days before being tracked down at a North Carolina hotel on Saturday.

Now, the mother and son duo are both behind bars.

Green's mother was arrested at her Northeast Baltimore home. Upset family members were there Wednesday night and confronted WJZ, but declined to comment.

While the family faces several charges in the city, Baltimore County has yet to file any charges.

Last week, WJZ asked the county why it didn't charge Green initially, which would have kept him in police custody from the start.

"This person was not charged because of the nature of this vehicular homicide case," said Elise Armacost, Baltimore County Police Department.

Even though Jeremiah's family tells WJZ they now have closure, they believe it could have came sooner.

WJZ tried reaching out to Baltimore County police, but never heard back.

Green is waiting extradition back to Maryland. He's being charged with manslaughter.

Walston remains in police custody. She's being charged with harboring a felony fugitive and obstruction of justice in reference to this case.

Green is expected to be extradited back to Maryland in the next few days.
