Penn State Edges Mt. St. Mary's 57-53
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) -- Talor Battle hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1.3 seconds left and Penn State defeated Mount St. Mary's (Md.) 57-53 on Tuesday night.
The 3 broke a tie at 53, and Battle scored a fourth point on a foul shot after the timeout.
Battle led the Nittany Lions (7-2) with 13 points and eight rebounds, and Jeff Brooks had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Mount St. Mary's (3-6) was unable to come away with the win despite going on a 16-6 run to open up the second half, pushing the Mountaineers ahead of Penn State 38-37 with just more than 10 minutes remaining.
The game went back and forth, leaving the game tied at 53 with less than 30 seconds left.
Lamar Trice led Mount St. Mary's with 16 points.
The Mountaineers are now 0-9 against Big Ten teams and 0-6 against Penn State since beginning Division I play in 1988-89.
