Panera In Abingdon Donating Weekend Sales To Fallen Deputies' Fund

ABINGDON, Md. (WJZ) -- The outpouring of support continues for two Harford County deputies killed in the line of duty last month.

Amy Yensi has more on a generous event being held this weekend in the name of those fallen officers.

The community has been showing its support since the tragedy, but this fundraiser has special meaning--it's being held where the fatal shots were fired.

The Panera Bread where one of two Harford County sheriff's deputies was gunned down is honoring them this weekend. One-hundred percent of the sales at the Abingdon cafe Friday through Sunday will be donated to the fund honoring Deputies Patrick Dailey and Mark Logsdon.

"We are so very thankful that our officers continue to go out every day and protect us," said Elizabeth Thornton.

"I just really appreciate what all the officers do every day," said Lin Baumbach.

Senior Deputy Dailey and Deputy Logsdon were shot and killed responding to a call at the Panera on February 10.

A month later, the fundraiser to benefit the Harford County Deputy Sheriff's Benevolent Fund shows the community remembers their sacrifice.

"Just to let them know that it means something, that we're not just going to forget," said Angie Myers.

In response, a Panera spokesperson says: "Our hope is that this weekend will be another step forward in the healing process for our entire community."

"It's nice to see that companies like Panera care more about the well-being of the community than just about the bottom line," said Ivan Ramirez.

The Harford County sheriff says the support has been overwhelming and the entire force is grateful that the community is standing by them.

"The last number I heard was somewhere between $350,000 and $400,000 that have come in for Pat and Mark's families, and that's a humbling thing," said Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler, Harford County.

Donations that go beyond dollar signs, and show the community still cares.

Panera is not alone. Several other local businesses are also fundraising through the spring.

The Harford County Deputy Sheriff's Fund collects donations to help first responders and their families in their time of need.
