O'Malley Agenda Promotes Electric Vehicles
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Gov. Martin O'Malley is promoting the development of electric vehicles in his legislative agenda.
O'Malley, a Democrat, made three proposals Monday. He wants to create an Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Council to prepare the state to integrate electric vehicles into Maryland communities.
The governor also wants state utility regulators to start a pilot program allowing utilities to offer incentives to recharge electric vehicles during off-peak hours.
O'Malley also is proposing legislation for a state income tax credit of 20 percent of the cost of electric vehicle charging equipment. The tax credit would be paid for out of greenhouse gas emissions auction proceeds.
