New Video, $12K Reward In Shooting Of Elderly Siblings
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Days after two senior citizens were shot in West Baltimore, the suspect remains at large. The manhunt is intensifying, with police releasing new surveillance video and announcing a reward.
Ava-joye Burnett tells us they hope it will help find the shooter.
Police know that people are scared to talk, but they hope the $12,000 reward will encourage someone to come forward if they recognize the suspect.
Caught on camera--a man seemingly on the run, moments after two senior citizens were shot.
"I mean, I get frustrated just talking about it because this incident shouldn't have occurred and he shouldn't still be out on the street," said T.J. Smith, Baltimore City Police Department.
The 92-year-old and her 82-year-old brother--innocent bystanders--shot in the leg while walking in the Walbrook Junction area Monday. They survived.
But over the weekend--two murders nearby--both still unsolved.
"It's outrageous," said Ericka Alston, community activist.
Alston tells WJZ people are scared to speak up.
Burnett: "Even though a $12,000 reward is being offered up right now. It still could be challenging for them to get leads in the case."
Alston: "Someone knows who it is, and that person needs to know that it's OK to make the call. And not only that it's OK to make the call, but it's the right thing to do."
The elderly brother and sister have been released from the hospital. Their niece, a White House correspondent, is just grateful things weren't worse.
"The issue is the fact that this is senseless, and it needs to stop--broad daylight," said April Ryan, victims' niece.
Now many are focusing on finding the man who may have pulled the trigger.
"We know that there is still a level of fear, but at the same time, people should fear this person who committed this cowardly act at 1 o'clock in the afternoon," said Smith.
The federal government has also gotten involved in the case. The ATF provided $10,000 of the $12,000 reward.
Anyone with information on the suspect, should call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-888-7LOCKUP
