Md. Police: Woman Lied In Apartment Crash Case

RIVERDALE, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County police say a woman falsely claimed to be the driver who crashed a car into an apartment building this weekend, attempting to take the blame for her husband.

Police say they determined that Akoswa Haynes, 36, was lying when she told police she crashed her car into an apartment building on Riverdale Road around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. Police determined the actual driver was Haynes' husband, David Archbald Smith.

Police made the determination about the actual driver after receiving a tip from a local television news reporter.

Smith, 39, has been cited for driving without a license among other things. Haynes was cited for knowingly giving false accident report information.
