Md. High School Raises $30K To Buy Student New Wheelchair

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland high school has raised $30,000 to purchase a new wheelchair for a disabled student.

WUSA-TV reports that students at Watkins Mill High School in Gaithersburg started a GoFundMe page for Ibrahim Samia, a 19-year-old student with athetoid cerebral palsy who has used the same donated wheelchair for six years.

Samia was born in Kenya and moved to the United States when he was 13.

A student group called Learning for Independence first held a bake sale for the student then set up a donation page. Any leftover funds will go toward helping other disabled students.
