Man Suspected In Crash That Killed 1-Year-Old In Custody

BALTIMORE (WJZ)--After nearly a week on the run, Wayne Green Jr., the man charged in the death of a 1-year-old boy is arrested.

WJZ's Amy Yensi has the latest.

The search for Wayne Green Jr. is over. The 38-year-old is arrested for the death of Jermiah Perry.

He managed to slip right out of the hospital Monday, just before being charged with killing Jermiah Perry.

But on Saturday, U.S. Marshals tracked him down in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Nicole Cuffy says she hopes the arrest brings Jermiah's family some relief.

"I think it's sad that somebody else, probably doing something that he had no business doing, injured and killed, a one year old. [He] didn't even have a chance at life," said Cuffy.

Police say Green was fleeing officers when he struck a vehicle in North East Baltimore. That vehicle then struck a stroller carrying the 16-month-old baby.

Video WJZ obtained shows the mayhem after the deadly crash. You can hear the outrage and anger from those who saw it.

Jermiah's family was not available to comment on the arrest, but earlier this week his grandmother had these words for Green.

"Obviously he has no remorse you know what's so ever killing a one year old baby," she said.

A makeshift memorial marks the spot where little Jermiah was struck and killed. People have been stopping by to leave balloons, teddy bears and pay tribute to a young life cut short.

Wayne Green Jr. is in custody in North Carolina tonight. He's awaiting extradition and is will likely face a Baltimore judge in the next couple days .

Green also has a history of drunk driving, including pleading guilty to a case that involved homicide by motor vehicle.
