Guilty Plea: Dietary Manager Used State Credit Cards To Buy, Resell Food
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The former dietary manager of a Maryland juvenile detention center has pleaded guilty to using a state-issued credit card to buy tons of frozen crab legs and shrimp that were resold to local restaurants.
Attorney General Doug Gansler announced on Wednesday that Douglas Allen Fairfax pleaded guilty to one count of felony theft in Frederick County Circuit Court.
Fairfax, who worked at the Victor Cullen Center in Sabillasville, used the credit card to buy more than 15,000 pounds of seafood that cost taxpayers about $94,000. He made the purchases between January 2011 and February 2012 to sell for his own profit.
Judge Julie Stevenson has scheduled sentencing for the 42-year-old Hagerstown man on July 31.
