Frostburg State University Issued Accreditation Warning

FROSTBURG, Md. (AP) — Frostburg State University's accreditation could be in jeopardy after the school received a warning.

Media outlets report the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, which accredits colleges in Maryland, says it placed the school on "warn" status at its meeting June 23 after finding the university was out of compliance with accreditation standards on institutional assessment and general education.

The university remains accredited while working to address the problems identified by the commission.

Commission spokesman Richard J. Pokrass says that when a school is warned, the group believes that the institution has the ability to make improvements and sustain itself in the long term.

Frostburg President Ronald Nowaczyk says he is confident the university will be able to meet the standards by the March deadline set by the commission.
