Family Marks 1-Year Anniversary Of Md. Woman's Disappearance In Aruba

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—One year ago Thursday, Maryland native Robyn Gardner disappeared in Aruba. WJZ has learned Aruban authorities are coming to the United States soon to meet with the FBI.

Mary Bubala reports her family vows to find out what happened to her.

It was last August that Robyn Gardner traveled to Aruba with Maryland businessman Gary Giordano.

He says she disappeared while the two snorkeled off the coast on Aug. 2.

Two days after Gardner vanished, Giordano tried to collect millions from an accidental death policy he took out on her.

Giordano spent months in an Aruba jail while police tried to build a case against him.

All the while Gardner's family in Frederick, Md. hasn't given up hope of finding her.

And for the first time Gardner's mom and sister are speaking publicly about her disappearance.

"My mother is still in contact with the FBI and Aruban authorities," said her sister Danielle Colson-Unglesbee.

Gardner's heartbroken family and friends gathered for a vigil to remember her.

"We are here to remember her and keep hope alive that maybe one day she'll come home," Colson-Unglesbee said.

"Just to not forget Robyn and not to give up hope in finding her, because you know I think that there is still hope," said Bonnie Hudson, relative.

Since being released from prison in Aruba, Giordano has professed his innocence.

In a separate case, he was arrested for indecent exposure in an Annapolis parking garage after police found him naked in a car with a woman from Tennessee.

Giordano is fighting that charge of indecent exposure in court next Friday.

He is also suing American Express for failing to pay that $1.5 million death benefit.
