Family Asks Hit & Run Driver To Come Forward After Deadly Accident

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A family is hoping for closure after their loved one was fatally hit by a car. Police say the driver left the scene, never stopping to help the victim.

Tracey Leong spoke to the family of Troy Jones and has their emotional plea.

Troy Jones was hit and killed on East 33rd Street when he was walking home earlier this month. The police and his family are hoping someone saw the driver that night and can help track him down.

A family desperate for answers.

"Pray for the family because we're all hurting," said his mother, Justina Jones.

Justina Jones is searching for the driver who struck her son, 52-year-old Troy Jones, and then left him in the street to die.

"He took a very loving brother of mine," said his sister.

Jones was hit on Feb. 1 around 11 at night near East 33rd and the Alameda by a burgundy minivan.

"We do know the minivan sustained damage based on what was left behind," said Detective Donny Moses.

Police say Jones walked right into the path of the minivan. It doesn't appear it was the driver's fault, but as soon as the driver left the scene, it became a criminal identification.

An officer nearby rushed nearby to try and save Jones, but it was too late. Jones didn't have any identification on him and his family wasn't notified until days later.

"I found him at the morgue," his sister said.

Jones' family is unable to find closure, knowing how he lost his life.

"All that bothers me now is how it happened," his mother said.

Now they have a plea for that driver.

"I know all of us have family but please turn yourself in," his sister said.

Troy Jones leaves behind two daughters and a son. He was laid to rest last weekend.

If you have any information, please call police.
