Driver Sentenced For Striking, Killing Bicyclist
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A man has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for striking and killing a bicyclist in Washington, then leaving the scene.
Richard Austin, 52, of Forestville, Md., had pleaded guilty to negligent homicide in May. He was sentenced on Friday.
At the plea hearing, Austin admitted to driving his SUV along Southern Avenue on June 4, 2010. Austin hit David Williams Jr. Austin continued driving, stopping about two blocks away.
While Williams, 40, lay injured in the road, he was hit by a second vehicle. He died at a Maryland hospital.
Prosecutors say Austin walked back to the scene and admitted to police that he had hit Williams.
