Deadly Gunfire in West Baltimore Initially Reported As Fireworks

BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ) -- Someone in West Baltimore called 911 late Wednesday night to report fireworks. That sound turned out to be gunfire as investigators instead found a 29-year-old man fatally shot, according to police.

Officers were initially dispatched to the 100 block of North Payson Street just after 10 p.m. As they searched the vicinity, a crowd of people near the corner North Payson and West Fayette Streets led police to the victim, who had been shot in the head and chest, police said.

Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
