JESSUP, Md. (AP) -- An officer at the Maryland Correctional Institution - Jessup is being treated for cheek and jaw fractures after being assaulted by an inmate.

Officials said the officer was trying to move an inmate to a different housing unit about 2:20 p.m. Monday. During the assault, several officers responded to the scene, and some were exposed to mace.

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital. The inmate has been put on administrative segregation.
